Hi everyone. In this article we will look at the difference between the questions “What is he/she like?” and “What does he/she look like?”

What is he/she like?

This question asks for information about a person’s personality, such as being generous, honest, rude, kind, trustworthy, talkative and all.

A: What is he like?
B: He is trustworthy and handsome, but a little bit rude.

What does he/she look like?

This question asks for information about a person’s looks and phyical appearance, such as height, age, hair color, eyes and all. When we answer this question we generally answer with the verb “have” because we have these features.

A: What does she look like?
B: She has black and straight hair and brown eyes. She’s not tall but not short, too.
